    Twitter is better at XMPP than Jaiku, but the XMPP gang is all here.

    Jaiku goes down also from time to time, but I like their roadmap: http://jaikuinvites.com/is-jaiku-now-a-20-time-project/ (basically Jaiku is being ported to run inside Google App Engine).
